Canada has become one of the most sought-after countries for immigration, thanks to its welcoming nature, a plethora of opportunities, and the exposure it provides. Hundreds of thousands of immigration applications are sent in every year, but only a small fraction of those people get accepted and are able to move to Canada. There is a wide variety of pathways to go down for admittance to the country, and this blog will discuss 5 of the best ways to immigrate to Canada.
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
This is a group of programs aimed to expedite the immigration process and get people permanent residence, and it’s operated by the Government of Canada in association with the different provinces and territories in Canada. There are two distinct ways to apply for this program:
- Each province in Canada has its own criteria to give nomination certificates to candidates. Most of the provinces require a candidate to have a valid job offer from an employer from that province. After a candidate is nominated by a province, he or she can apply for permanent residence application at the federal level. Another option is to get the benefit of nomination in express entry profile that reduces the processing time for permanent residence application. This is all done online. You can find more information on this here: .
- If the province or territory you want to apply to doesn’t support the Express Entry stream, you’ll have to resort to applying through the paper (which recently has converted to an online process on a pilot basis) – based process. If you get a nomination, you’ll have to send in the application to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This stream takes longer than Express Entry to be processed.
To be able to apply through both these streams, you must meet the minimum requirements of whichever province or territory you apply to, to be eligible. You must also submit an Express Entry profile, and display proof of meeting the minimum criteria for immigration to Canada.
This pathway is one of the most convenient ways to immigrate to Canada in 2021.
Family Sponsorship
If you have a family member above 18 years of age living in Canada as a citizen, permanent resident, or registered as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act, you’re in luck! This family member can make you eligible and sponsor you to immigrate to Canada.
To meet the requirements of this stream, you have to be a spouse, partner, dependent child, parent, grandparent, adopted child, or close relative of the sponsor. There have been many cases of fraudulent spousal visas and things didn’t end well for them, so make sure that your relationship with your sponsor is legitimate.
Startup Visa
If you’re planning to start a business in Canada, this one’s for you! You can go to Canada using this visa on a work permit, and apply for a permanent residence visa later on. There’s a catch, however: your work permit application must be supported by investors or shareholders if any, based in Canada. The other eligibility criteria for this visa include:
- Have a business that qualifies for the program
- Have a Commitment Certificate and Letter of Support from a deemed establishment to demonstrate that your business has the backing
- Be proficient in either English or French
- Show proof of having enough funds in your bank account to settle down in Canada
Study Permit
A study permit is issued to international students at the port of entry and it’s for students who have an acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution in Canada. Usually, this permit is issued for the length of the program of study and a small grace period to give the opportunity to students to apply for the post-graduation work permit.
Citizens of China, India, Morocco, Pakistan, The Philippines, Senegal, or Vietnam can apply for a study permit online through Student Direct Stream for their application to be processed in a shorter amount of time – around 20 days.
Express Entry
This is definitely the fastest way to enter Canada and helps authorize PR applications for 3 different immigrations programs for the Economic Class: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. Your eligibility is assessed based on a system called the Comprehensive Ranking System. You are scored on different criteria like language proficiency, education, work experience, age, availability of a job offer, and adaptability.
